Cipcuris-250 by Biocuris is a potent, broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic containing Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride Tablets IP 250mg, developed under the trusted brand promise — “Quality with Integrity”. Ciprofloxacin is one of the most widely prescribed antibiotics globally, known for its excellent tissue penetration, bactericidal action, and efficacy against a wide range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. The 250mg strength is typically indicated for milder infections, pediatric use (where appropriate), and as a step-down therapy following initial intravenous treatment.
Ciprofloxacin works by inhibiting two essential bacterial enzymes: DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV. DNA gyrase is responsible for introducing negative supercoils into bacterial DNA, which is necessary for DNA replication and transcription. Topoisomerase IV helps separate newly replicated bacterial chromosomes. By blocking these enzymes, Ciprofloxacin prevents bacterial DNA from unwinding and replicating, leading to rapid bacterial cell death. This dual-target mechanism makes it bactericidal (kills bacteria) rather than merely bacteriostatic (stops growth).
Ciprofloxacin has excellent bioavailability (approximately 70–80% after oral administration) and achieves high concentrations in serum, urine, and various tissues, including the respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, genitourinary system, bones, joints, and prostate. The 250mg dose provides adequate therapeutic levels for less severe or uncomplicated infections while minimizing the risk of dose-related adverse effects.

1. What is the difference between Cipcuris-250 and Cipcuris-500?
Cipcuris-250 contains 250mg of ciprofloxacin per tablet, while Cipcuris-500 contains 500mg. The 250mg strength is used for milder infections, uncomplicated UTIs, renal impairment, or as a step-down therapy from IV treatment.
2. What infections does Cipcuris-250 treat?
It is used for uncomplicated urinary tract infections (cystitis), mild respiratory infections, infectious diarrhoea, typhoid fever (step-down), and certain skin infections. Your doctor will choose the right strength based on infection severity.
3. How should I take Cipcuris-250?
Take exactly as prescribed, usually every 12 hours (twice daily). Swallow tablets whole with plenty of water. Do not take with dairy products alone (milk, yoghurt) as calcium reduces absorption.
4. What are the common side effects?
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhoea, dizziness, headache, and rash. Serious side effects like tendon pain, nerve pain, or mood changes require immediate medical attention.
5. Can children take Cipcuris-250?
Ciprofloxacin is not routinely used in children due to potential joint and cartilage effects. However, it may be prescribed for specific serious infections like complicated UTIs or anthrax exposure when benefits outweigh risks. Always follow pediatric dosing strictly.
