Dexcuris-30 Capsules by Biocuris contains Dexlansoprazole Modified Release (MR) Capsules 30mg. Dexlansoprazole is the R-enantiomer of lansoprazole and a potent proton pump inhibitor (PPI) with a unique dual delayed-release (DDR) formulation. Unlike conventional PPIs (omeprazole, esomeprazole, pantoprazole, rabeprazole, lansoprazole) that release the entire dose at once, Dexcuris-30 contains two distinct types of enteric-coated granules – one that releases the medication approximately 1–2 hours after ingestion (providing early acid suppression) and another that releases approximately 4–5 hours after ingestion (providing sustained acid suppression throughout the day and night). This innovative DDR technology results in two separate peaks of plasma concentration, effectively mimicking twice-daily dosing of conventional PPIs while maintaining the convenience of once-daily administration.
Dexlansoprazole works by irreversibly binding to and inhibiting the gastric H+/K+ ATPase (proton pump) located on the parietal cells of the stomach. This blocks the final step of gastric acid secretion, reducing both basal and stimulated acid output, regardless of the stimulus (food, histamine, gastrin, acetylcholine).
Dexcuris-30 is indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), including non-erosive reflux disease (NERD) for relief of heartburn and other GERD symptoms, healing of erosive esophagitis (EE), maintenance of healed erosive esophagitis to prevent relapse, and symptomatic relief of nocturnal acid breakthrough. The 30mg strength is appropriate for most patients; a 60mg strength is available for more severe cases.
Unlike many other PPIs that must be taken 30–60 minutes before a meal, dexlansoprazole can be taken with or without food due to its dual-release technology. Once absorbed, dexlansoprazole has a longer half-life (approximately 1.5 hours) compared to lansoprazole and provides more sustained acid suppression, keeping intragastric pH above 4 for approximately 17–18 hours out of 24.
Dual delayed-release for twice-daily effect in one capsule
Provides 24-hour acid suppression
Controls daytime & nighttime heartburn
Heals erosive esophagitis effectively
No food timing restrictions (take with or without food)
1. What makes Dexcuris-30 different from other PPIs like omeprazole or esomeprazole?
Its unique dual delayed-release technology provides two separate drug releases, giving twice-daily acid suppression with once-daily dosing.
2. Does Dexcuris-30 need to be taken on an empty stomach before a meal?
No, unlike most other PPIs, Dexcuris-30 can be taken with or without food, making it more convenient for patients.
3. Will it work for nighttime heartburn that wakes me up?
Yes, the dual-release design provides acid suppression for 24 hours, including overnight, reducing nocturnal breakthrough symptoms.
4. How long does it take to heal erosive esophagitis with Dexcuris-30?
For moderate to severe erosive esophagitis, the 60mg strength is typically used for 6-8 weeks. The 30mg strength is for maintenance after healing.
5. Can I crush the capsule if I have trouble swallowing?
No, crushing destroys the dual delayed-release granules, causing the entire dose to release at once, reducing effectiveness and increasing side effects.
